  Environmental Totems:

  Forest and Garden

I collaborated with Jacinthe Roy, the Junior School Art teacher, and the Grade 6 art students to create a site-based sculpture consisting of six cast concrete columns. Three columns, set in the formal gardens of the school depict, in relief, some aspect of those gardens while three other columns, set in the ravine, a remnant of the Carolinian Forest, depict some aspect of the forest. The student’s designs were abstracted from exercised in structure observation in which they were asked: what makes a forest a forest? And what makes a garden a garden?
